I agree this would be a more logical type hierarchy. I think it would give
XML Schema some definitional problems - which types are primitive and which
are derived? - but it would be doable. It's unfortunate, though, that the
schema type system and the XPath language family are being developed
asynchronously from each other, because it makes this kind of improvement
much more difficult to make.
