Announcements of new activities are welcome on XSL-List (as are short
announcements of products and services).

If you are not interested in the activity, don't participate.

Criticizing new activities because you don't think they are
appropriate/useful does not seem like a good use of XSL-List. So, I
think we have had enough discussion on XSL-List of the this particular
announcement.
