MATHML basics

I want to understand the basics of MATHML language.. Can somebody
please please provide a small introduction? Why it is exactly used?
Where all it can used(like web & non-web uses)? How does it relate
with other languages like XML, HTML etc.. What are the tools available
for MATHML?

I'll appreciate any help..
