> Is there an equivalent of 'while' loop in XSLT 2.0? it depends what you mean by equivalence. xsl:apply-templates and xsl:for-each are the main constructs that cause a block of instructions to be repeated, which play the part of while loops in imperative languages. Clearly you couldn't have a loop construct in a declarative language that looped "until something was true" as the language is side-effect free so if the condition is not true when the loop starts it will never be true as no instructions in the body of a template can change values outside that template.
