PS
I wrote
<xsl:variable name="n">
<xsl:number value="position()" format="1"/>
</xsl:variable>
<a href="#q{$pos}{$pos2}{$n}" name="#a{$pos}{$pos2}{$n}">
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
</a>
I didn't notice the xsl:number construct you were using, there is no
point in using xsl:number with a value of position() as you can just use
position() directly, so the above can be further simplified to
<a href="#q{$pos}{$pos2}{position()}" name="#a{$pos}{$pos2}{position()}">
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
</a>
although as I mentioned in my first reply it should be
<a href="#q{$pos}{$pos2}{position()}" name="a{$pos}{$pos2}{position()}">
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
</a>
