Exactly David, you're making a good point here... I was using the early XQuery implementation built on .NET and quite enjoyed it and even wrote about it for ASPToday.com and published a few other articles on it on my site pietsieg.com and on topxml.com. But then they abandoned it - the factor of having experienced the bad idea you mentioned may have influenced that decision. Anyway, Xquery is coming in .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 and I can't wait to try and use it.
