not getting expected matches

okay, the expression I'm using is:

<xsl:template match="//*[starts-with(name(), 'SEG')]/NAME">
	<xsl:value-of select="."/><xsl:text>*</xsl:text>
</xsl:template>


I'm thinking that this should return me the text of the 'NAME' child of all of
the elements that start with 'SEG' correct? but I have this as my XML...

xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://red-man.com/namespace

and I expect to see this in the result:

ST*


but it never runs this template at all...don't even see the * anywhere. so I'm
guessing my xpath expression is not formed correctly...can anyone help me with
it? thanks...
