Steve, why don't you post more code, especially filter.asp? 
A reference to a 'line 60' does not help us... :-)

Yes, this code does work as is, but when I pass in a parameter from ASP it
returns this error:

msxml4.dll error '80004005'

Reference to variable or parameter 'filter' must evaluate to a node list.
