Subject: date-time formatting question

I am trying to do something very simple, but I can't figure out how.

Input example:

	<text>
  	   <date>2003-03-15</date>
	</text>

Desired output:

March 3, 2003

Another more complex example would be:

(2003) .... Mar 3

(The sort of thing you'd see in a formatted bibliographic reference)

I've gotten far enough to figure out that I probably need to use exslt dates-and-times templates, but the documentation is too thin for me (a non-expert) to understand how to apply.

Help, please?
