Has anyone started out with FOP and then had to 'upgrade' to a

DT's words are a little worrying. What do Ken and DP think?

I cannot use FOP for my production work (at least I'm assuming I still cannot; once successfully in production it is hard to go back and test other software again).

I can interchange the use of RenderX and Antenna House with my stylesheets for the production of my PDF books and my course handouts, with production-quality results.

You have to base your choice on your definition of "production" work, though ... for me it is a question of commerce and I won't risk that with degraded performance from a free tool that isn't complete.

Plus, I think the commercial vendors deserve just reward for bringing quality software to our desktops that help us look good in our own work.

(your books are on order by the way :)

:{)} Nice to hear ... thanks! As I type this I'm working in other windows on the Eleventh Edition of my XSLT book and Fifth Edition of my XSL-FO book (the electronic PDF editions with perpetual free updates; for my early XSLT customers they will be picking up their tenth free edition). No free updates for the paper books (gee, I wonder why?) but all customers of any edition of either of the PDF books that we sell get free access to *all* future editions, including editions that will cover XSLT 2.0 and XSL-FO 1.1. This week's editions will be the last editions for XSLT 1.0 and probably for XSL-FO 1.0.

Ain't electronic publication kewl?
