Both of these statements are correct.  

225 is 225% of 100: this applies 225/100, which is if you want to relate
your current amount with the starting amount. You now have 225% of what
you started with.

225 shows a 125% increase from 100: this applies to your (current amount
- starting amount) / starting amount. That tells you your actual
interest, or growth.
