Yuo can create block-container with border:
e.g. <fo:block-container height="15cm" width="1cm" top="1cm" left="1cm" position="absolute"
                                   border-start-style="solid" border-start-width="2pt"

Can anyone provide me with an example of how to add a vertical line to in
xsl-fo say at left = 1cm, top = 1cm, length = 15cm and thickness = 2pt.
