Hm, interesting, and tricky. Since you would have to count the number of children on the fly, I don't think this could be done in one pass. If you used two passes, you could sort the elements by their number of children, or flag them for later comparison (of static values), in the first pass, and de-duplicate them in the second.

Or I bet you could use FXSL.... (Dimitre?) Strictly speaking that's not one pass either, but that's why it's so powerful.

Which of these ways you want to do it depends largely on non-technical factors, I'd say....
