You probably want 

 not(normalize-space(.)
^^^

>           <input type="text" name="{@name}" value="{.}"/>
>       </xsl:when>
>       <xsl:otherwise>

You meant to write 

<xsl:value-of select="."/>
 ^^^
>       </xsl:otherwise>
>    </xsl:choose>
> </xsl:template>

With these corrections, it does what you want.
