I've noticed that your selects are not prefixed by the namespace. This
would mean that when xpath picks up you query, it will never find the
elements because they are being referenced incorrectly. Try using (for
example):

            <xsl:variable name="showdateBegin"
select="od:EventBeginDate"/>
