This is an XSLT 2.0 construct which is fully supported in Saxon 7.x
(Well, almost fully. Currently the regular expression syntax is that of
JDK 1.4, which is different in minor details from the one specified).

The regex attribute is an AVT: you can write regex="{$regex}".

(Take care with regex's that contain curly braces - they need to be
doubled!)
