error installing libxslt-1.0.29

I am trying to install libxslt-1.0.29 on a linux machine (Red Hat 7.1).

I have successfully installed libxml2-2.5.6.

Configuration appears to be fine (i.e. ./configure)

When I run make, I get the following error and the process is aborted:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lxml2
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [libxslt.la] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/tmayes/SOURCE/libxslt-1.0.29/libxslt'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/tmayes/SOURCE/libxslt-1.0.29'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

Any help will be appreciated.
