XSLT2 etc offer nice regex features:

http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-operators/#func-tokenize

http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-operators/#func-replace
http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-operators/#func-matches

Check saxon.sf.net, which supports this stuff (check the docs for more info).

I'm using Saxon 7.3.1 to process my XSLT2 transformations containing regex stuff, and it's big fun. It really works well.
