just have a global variable at the top level of the stylesheet:

<xsl:variable name="originaldoc" select="/"/>

...
<xsl:variable name="mydoc" select="document('mydoc.xml')"/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="$mydoc//*"/>
...
<xsl:value-of select="$originaldoc/a/b/c"/>
