Is your problem _really_ to do with using a' in RE or just a matter of
getting an ' into an XPath string (which means you have to use ' or
" somewhere, as in 

select=' .... " ' " ... '

ie use ' to deleimit the XML attribute, leaving " free to delimit the
XPath string, but then requiring ' to get the ' into the
'-delimited attribute.
