How would I lay the following out in XSL-FO?

-------------------page width--------------------
-----col 1----- -----col 2----- -----col 3-----
(I've got page-masters ok this far)

--------picture------- col2txt- ----col3txt----
--------picture------- col2txt- ----col3txt----
--------picture------- col2txt- ----col3txt----
--------picture------- col2txt- ----col3txt----
----col1txt---- ----col2txt---- ----col3txt----
----col1txt---- ----col2txt---- ----col3txt----
----col1txt---- ----col2txt---- ----col3txt----
----col1txt---- ----col2txt---- ----col3txt----
----col1txt---- ----col2txt---- ----col3txt----

Basically, I would like to make the picture repel
text. Would a float do that, if the picture was wider
than one column, intruding halfway into column 2? What
is the best way of 'intruding' an item into text, such
that it repels the text like this?
