If it is in that format you can just do a string sort (that's one reason
why standards prefer yyyy-mm-dd over the more conventional yyyy/mm/dd
or the strange yyyy/dd/mm, string sorting gives date order in ISO
format.

If your "example" is just an example and you have other formats to
consider as well then you may need to use substring and concat to get
back to that format or use some date parsing extension function.


Xpath2 draft has some primitive functionality for working with dates
although unfortunately it's based on w3c schema date types so barely
usable (and no help at all all unless your date format is as above)
