> <xsl:apply-templates select="document($querystr)">< document() returns a root (/) node so if your template for / does not accept and pass on the parameter it will be lost. perhaps you want <xsl:apply-templates select="document($querystr)/*"> then the parameter will be passed to tehtemplate matching teh top level element of the document.
