i18n chars

Hi everyone.
Need some help from you gurus on following question:

I have following XML data:
<testData>
<myName>???</myName><!--those are Russian symbols (not sure if they will be displayed
correctrly in email body)-->
</testData>

Here is XSL part:
...
<intput type="text" name="EF1" value="{/testData/myName}"/>
...
In that case my edit control displays correct value for EF1 text field.

If I try to do following instead:
<intput type="text" name="EF1">
    <xsl:attribute name="value">
        <xsl:if test="...some test...">
            <xsl:value-of select="/testData/myName" />
        </xsl:if>
    </xsl:attribute>
</input>

Edit field displays escaped characters like &#1004;....

I tried to use <xsl:value-of select="/testData/myName" disable-output-escaping="yes" />
but it didnt help.
I need to make it work using last approach since I need to put some logic before
displaying value.
Please help.
