My environment:

FOP: 0.20.2
XSLT: Xalan 2.1.0

creating PDFs and using FO is not a problem for me, but if the data - input
(XML stream inside the java application) is too large (480k +), i will get
"java.lang.OutOfMemoryError OutOfMemoryException"

This bug is listed in bugzilla at http://xml.apache.org/fop

Does anybody know a work around or maybe a solution to solve this problem?

Search in the archive of fop-user mail list, there were many recipes there how to avoid out of memory using fop, such as: get rid of (if you can) "page x of y" stuff, don't use one big page sequence, etc etc. And upgrade fop to 0.20.3.
