The workaround is to do what you want to do, only find a way without using variables (or what you think are variables, which you're discovering aren't what XSLT calls "variables"). I believe in this case the solution would be to use keys, with a sum() function to gather all the nodes matching a certain key (in this case the key would be to the type of currency). In order to perform totals and subtotals, more than one key would likely have to be designed. But since this kind of data processing is not my forte (and I have other stuff I'm sposed to be doing, sorry!), I can't say any more than this at the moment. Cheers, Wendell
