Very simply, I'm trying to do the following: <![CDATA[</i>]]> but the < and > are being escaped as < and > The input <![CDATA[</i>]]> is identical to the input </i> it is just two ways of writing the same thing, just as <x a="b"> is the same as <x a = 'b' > The XML parser does not report to XSLT which syntax appeared in the input file. Similarly the two forms are equivalent in the output.
