Couldn't we just have a new attribute instead of a whole new tag? IE;
<xsl:apply-templates regexp-select-string="text()"/>
(if that's even needed) and:
<xsl:template regexp-match="\sqrt{....}">
It's just another way of matching templates, not a whole new concept???
