Unfortunately you can't use variables in keys :(  [It's supposed to
avoid circular definitions - variables defined using keys using
variables - but actually it's just a pain in the neck.]

Thanks for the explanation. For some reason my XSL parser allowed it and it is working, but I suppose that if its contrary to the spec I ought to make the fixes you suggest so as to ensure portability.
