Re: xslt on server-side vs. client-side

Yet another 10 to 20% (depending on the month) ran > some form of Netscape 4.7 or lower... Almost everyone else was running IE 5 > or 5.5 (a small trickle of IE 6, Opera and what have you.) Then there's the > Web crawlers that index the sites. Any guesses on how many of them could > handle XML/XSLT? IE6 hasn't been out long and netscape 6.1 even less (and to be honest xslt in NS 6.x isn't really stable enough to be used yet, although it's getting better all the time) In particular until XSLT was in the default builds of mozilla/netscape there was no real client side xslt away from windows. However they are there now and I expect things will change rapidly. Not everyone will have an XSLT browser (I still use lynx quite often for browsing and that doesn't have pictures either) as for what web indexers will do, I don't know, they'll sort something out I'm sure. Maybe we'll all get round to putting rdf metadata in the files and making their lives easy:-) There is also a whole class of people for whom server side transforms are not an option. I'm mailing this from work but actually I'm sat at home and on my home ISP I have lots of more or less free web space but no server side capability (unless I pay them more) anyone with basic dialup access can write an xml file with an xml-stylesheet pi and stick it on a web site, this is transfomation technology for the masses, configuring a caching server side transformation policy isn't.
