You can't. Remember that msxml2 was based on an early working draft of (what
became) XSLT, and that the language was vastly improved between the draft
and the final spec. You are using ancient, creaking, obsolete technology,
and your only reasonable strategy is to upgrade rather than fighting its
limitations.
