This smells like a Saxon question.

It's basically the same as the properties parameter of the
setOutputProperties() method in javax.xml.transform.Transformer.

Are you sure you need to be using the Saxon internal classes rather than
sticking entirely to the JAXP 1.1 interface?

Please raise Saxon-specific questions on the saxon list at sourceforge.
