I haven't seen your XML, but it could be that the way you are using it 
isn't very useful.
In my opinion the greatest advantage of using XML&XSL(T) for generating 
(X)HTML is that you can fully seperate your data from your  lay-out. In 
this way you can update your data without touching your lay-out and 
vice-versa. You also can present the same data in a different way just by 
creating different XSL(T)'s. Also the data you use can be from an external 
source which is updated regularly, which you want to display .
I'm sure you will discover the advantages of XML&X*.
