XSLT only supports generating valid XML by definition. if say <xsl:output method="html"/> it *might* (for some XSLT processors anyway, Saxon in my experience works this way), produce HTML 4.0 (not XHTML), which may or may not conform to the XML spec. -- Rafael R.
