One way to do this is the following: <xsl:variable name="neatXML"> <xsl:apply-templates select="/root/client/months"/> </xsl:variable> Then in your code use this RTF in the following way: <xsl:apply-templates select="xxx:node-set($neatXML)/root/client/month"/> where xxx is the preffix associated with a particular vendor-specific extension namespace (e.g. msxsl, or saxon, or xt) Hope this helped.
