Hi,

I'm pleased to announce that there is now an EXSLT website available
at http://www.exslt.org/ and a mailing list for the initiative - see
http://www.exslt.org/list.

EXSLT is an open community initiative to standardise and document
extensions to XSLT. The extensions are broken down into a number of
modules, currently Common, Math, Sets and Functions.

One aim of EXSLT is to get the implementers of XSLT processors to
standardise the functions that they make available, so that your
stylesheets can be more portable. If your XSLT processor doesn't
support a particular extension, you can always download packages (see
http://www.exslt.org/download.html) that you can use to provide
functions or templates for your stylesheets. Have a look at the How
To... page at http://www.exslt.org/howto.html for details on how to
use the packages.

Anyone can contribute to EXSLT. You can submit your suggestions for
extensions, your own implementations and test cases or examples (see
http://www.exslt.org/submissions). There's no vetting procedure for
submissions - if you submit an extension and one doesn't already exist
with the same name, then the extension will be added to the site.
However, we will keep track of the status of extensions so that you
can tell what's implemented where. In addition, each module has a
core subset; implementers that claim support for that module must
implement that core.

The emphasis on the site is towards XSLT extensions rather than XSLT
templates. However, every extension function can have an equivalent
template as well, which people can use as a backup if the function
isn't supported.

The site has been put together by myself, Jim Fuller, Uche Ogbuji and
Dave Pawson. If you'd like to join the team or you have any comments
on the site, please direct them to managers@xxxxxxxxxx Other
discussion should take place on list@xxxxxxxxxx

Cheers,

Jeni
