You can use the dpawson code, but you can also use '+' to represent spaces
in URLs. Example
XML:
<root>
<sometext>Big fish</sometext>
</root>
XSL:
<xsl:template match="root">
<a href="{translate(sometext,' ','+')}">A link</a>
</xsl:template>
This will work just as well as %20. For other special characters it's
probably better to use dpawson's code.
