You can within the XPath, but I think you have to explicitly make the
conversion within the Javascript. At the moment you're passing an
attribute (a DOMNode) into the Javascript and then treating it as a
string. Try:
scriptsNS:HiDude(string(@attr))
and see if that gives you better luck.
