It didn't really (mainly because the output was too abbreviated to see
how it was supposed to be generated from the input)

You comment on the fact that the call-template/param syntax is
verbose (which it is) but unless I am missing something you are just
making a table consisting of data from your input file, in order, in
which case, the simpler apply-templates and template match mechanism
would appear to suffice.
