Rendering: filling tag attributes via XSLT

I'm trying to render the following:

<a href='#<xsl:value-of select="@name"/>'>

but of course I'm told that there's a 
problem with nested < characters. 
What can I do?  I'm trying to generate
WML.  Please help!
