Subject: Passing cookies into an xsl:variable ?????

Is there anyway (java or VB) to pass a cookie result into a an xsl:variable
?????   Something like <xsl:variable name="myVar"> request.cookie or some
call in script tags </xsl:variable>

All help is greatly appreciated!!!
