why does it need to be printed that way?
If you succeed in getting &nbsp; into an XML file without including a
suitable <!DOCTYPE line then it is a fatal error and the document will
be rejected by any XML system.

Any XML system should understand &#160; or the character with that
code value as being the same character as the one that you presumably
are trying to access with this entity reference.
