XSL FO -> PDF

Hello,

I have been assigned the task of assessing an appropriate tool to
generate PDF
files from XSL FO. I am hoping to receive some input on your preferred
solution
and features that you appreciate and/or find frustrating.

I am keen to recommend a product that is supported and continues to be
developed
with updates issued and is very much platform independant, using Java.
I am working on Linux-i686-2.2.16 using SAXON.

Any information that might assist me or guide me to sources of further
informtion
is much appreciated.

Thus far, according to my research the main products worth considering
are:

    Query:
       *  Does that mean the platform can also be Java based?
       *  If XEP is a rendering engine does it work with a servelet
            engine such as Tomcat? I may have this slightly confused?

    Query:
      * I am assuming FOP and XEP perform similar tasks according
         to the comparison chart drawn up by RenderX?

    Thought:
    *  This may be a bigger product that incorporates FOP and the
ability
         to generate HTML, perhaps more features than required.

I did have a look at PassiveTeX also, although I was concerned that
information I came across stated that running headers/footers were
not dealt with properly.
