 The first idea that comes to mind is something like:
<xsl:for-each select="imagelist/image">
<xsl:variable name="pos" select="position()"/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="."/>
<xsl:apply-templates
select="ancestor::body/paralist/para[position()=$pos]"/>
</xsl:for-each>
