Keep in mind that the spec's identity transformation will not copy comments.
You'll need to add something like following if you want your input
documents' comments copied to the output along with everything else:

  <xsl:template match="comment()">
    <xsl:comment><xsl:value-of select="."/></xsl:comment>
  </xsl:template>
