Wireless XML - Detecting User Agents? How..
Does anyone know what header info differentiates between a Palm Pilot wireless device and a cell phone? I am trying to use servlets and Cocoon to output according to differenr user agents -----Original Message----- From: Pawson, David [mailto:DPawson@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 8:14 AM To: 'xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'; wap_technical@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Driving XSL based on WAP phone characteristics Neill James >The wapforum body is looking at extending the scope of what is >effectively >the HTTP_USER_AGENT header field to include more structured information >about the functional capabilities and physical characteristics >of WAP based >mobile devices (eg, screen height, colour availability, font >availability). For me, this sounds like a nightmare >as there are so >many device types out there - and more to come. Some neutrality would help, some parameterisation of capability to drive the transform, I think the rest is just that, seperate stylesheets to cater for gross differences. Erics interception of the output stream might be of use, for instance in setting screen (hence line) width. That might increase the flexibility even more.
