I was thinking along the lines of closing the page element each time an overlap problem threatens, and opening a new one with the same page nr. But you're right, it becomes very very inelegant and wouldn't in the end really capture the page break structure at all. It would look something like this: </page><!-- page end tag goes here because the subsequent list overlaps two pages --> <list> <item><page nr="1">...</page></item><!-- new page element still indicating page 1 --> <item><page nr="2">...</page></item><!-- new page element indicating page 2 --> </list> So it's back to empty elements for indicating page breaks, and having problems using those as hooks for outputting separate pages using XSLT...
