xpath efficency

Some differences that come immediately to mind:
- in XPath text nodes are always normalized
- XPath doesn't have entity nodes or CDATA nodes
- in DOM the name of a text node is "#text", in XPath it is ""
- in DOM the nodeValue of <e>thing</e> is "", in XPath the string-value is
"thing"
- XPath nodes have a base URI property
- In DOM xmlns:xyz="uri" creates an attribute node, in XPath it doesn't
