xpath visualiser

Has anyone else had problems using the xpath visualiser?

Using jre 1.2.2.001 on win95
(tried it on nt at home, same result)

It opens, opens an xml file,
but on entering an xpath expression and hitting
start, step, nothing else happens.

I'm guessing the expression is plain text,
doesn't need to be in quotes etc,
such as, for a.xml in the examples, top/second.

Any suggestions please?
I think this could be so so  useful.
