So do I. I haven't tried yours, so I can't say whether it still works
with XT, but this:

    <xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes">&lt;?xml
version="1.0"?></xsl:text>
    <xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes">&lt;!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC
"-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.1//EN"
"http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml_1.1.xml"></xsl:text>

does work. I got that from someone on the comp.text.xml newsgroup. Thank
you for your reply, though, you been more helpful than most. 
Maybe this should go into a FAQ, as the info out there comprises the W3C
spec, which isn't great for learning XML, and tutorials, which are
geared towards HTML output?
